BOOK DISCUSSION ON THE FEMALE BODY
WITH MAYA SALAM

DATE: TBA

New York Times gender reporter Maya Salam will jumpstart a candid group conversation about women's bodies, and the range of feelings they elicit around National Book Award finalist ‘Her Body and Other Parties’ by Carmen Maria Machado.

"Her Body and Other Parties, by Carmen Maria Machado, is a love letter to an obstinate genre that won’t be gentrified."
―Parul Sehgal, The New York Times

Maya Salam is a gender reporter at The New York Times and a leading contributor to the Gender Initiative, a cross-departmental effort to more deeply engage women readers globally. She brings her unique sensibility and sharp voice to her twice-weekly column and newsletter titled In Her Words.

Some of her pieces include "R. Kelly: Why So Many Ignored the Warning Signs," "Does ‘Having It All’ Mean Doing It All?", “Damaging a Man’s Good Name Versus Damaging a Woman’s Life” about the Kavanaugh hearings, and the front page project "#MeToo Brought Down 201 Powerful Men. Nearly Half of Their Replacements Are Women."
