MOVEMENT STUDIO - COMMUNITY SPACE

MISSION

Founded in 2017, The Floor is a movement studio and community-centered space rooted in Brooklyn, New York. More than a place to take class, The Floor exists as a living, breathing hub for care, creativity, and collective support. We offer open Pilates mat classes alongside a wide range of programming designed to nurture both individual practice and shared experience. At our core, we believe movement is a tool for connection, sustainability, and care—for ourselves and for one another.

The Floor is deeply committed to supporting artists and cultural workers across New York City. We recognize the structural challenges faced by creatives, and we actively work to reduce barriers by offering tangible resources and space. Our Artist Services include a residency program that provides artists with time, space, and visibility; subsidized studio rentals to ensure access remains equitable; and performance opportunities that center experimentation, risk-taking, and diverse voices.

Community care is equally central to our mission. Through our Community Services, we cultivate a cooperative teaching model that values collaboration over competition. We host public discussions that invite critical dialogue around art, movement, labor, and social justice, and we maintain a shared library that supports research, rest, and ongoing learning. These offerings are designed to strengthen relationships and build a culture of mutual support.

We are a space where movement meets purpose, where artists are supported, and where community is not just imagined—but practiced daily.
